o goal – turn USSR from an agricultural to an industrialized nationo abolished Lenin's NEP and its experiment with capitalism
o instituted Five Year Plans –
-economic planning – government makes production and distribution decisions
-creating a centrally-planned command economy
o collectivization –
-meant to increase food supply and create capital for investment in heavy industry
-individual farms abolished
-peasants forced to join together and farm state-owned land
