Pontiac's Rebellion (jan 1, 1763 – dec 1, 1765)

Description:

Pontiac's Rebellion was an armed conflict following the Seven Years' War between the British Empire & the colonies and the Native American tribes around the colonies.

Pontiac's Rebellion started after the British victory of the Seven Years' War. After their win, the empire sought to integrate former French and Spanish territories into their dominion.

However, the Native American tribes living in those areas did not approve of the British developing their territory in their homes. In 1763, they went on the offensive and overran the westernmost fortifications. The war quickly spread throughout Native America.

Effects of the Pontiac Rebellion were very vast. The British Empire ended up promising to conform to Native understandings of their alliances and recognize Indigenous sovereignty. Over five hundred civilians lost their lives, and the resulting trauma encouraged further attacks against Native populations.

When the British Empire took measures to defend the Natives tribes and territories, the colonists did not agree, contributing to the revolutionary storm brewing in the colonies.
