Russian Civil War (nov 7, 1917 – oct 25, 1922)
Description:
Actions in Petrograd are replicated around the country, but a civil war breaks out between remnants of the provisional govt. ("the Whites") vs. the Bolsheviks ("the Reds") with some peasants fighting against both sides ("the Greens"). Bolsheviks win, Trotsky emerges as a war hero, and introduces war communism -- state-run communism with all industry in state hands: food forcibly taken from peasants (creating 'kulaks'), militarization of labor. The Reds' win comes at the cost of alienating all levels of society due to authoritarianism
