Continuation of collectivization, poor climate, and increasingly predatory govt. practices leads to horrible famine, with at least 5 million dead by May 1933. Most closely associated with Ukraine and the basis of Ukrainian nationalism -- seen as deliberately targeted to put down nationalism and called a genocide ("holodomor" or extermination by hunger)
