The Silver Age (Earth-1) (oct 2, 1956 – sep 1, 1961)

Description:

Over the decades of the Golden Age, certain superheroes began to become more prominent, while others faded into obscurity, with some being replaced altogether. Jay Garrick, The Flash of the Golden Age, was surpassed by Barry Allen, as was Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, by Hal Jordan. Even the Justice Society of America was replaced with the younger Justice League of America. This signified the transition between the Golden Age and the Silver Age of the DC Universe, and although it was not known at the time, the Golden Age had actually taken place on Earth-2, while the Silver Age was taking place on Earth-1. The Silver Age counterparts of preexisting Golden Age characters, were given new origins and were made to be younger in order to fit the timeline of the newly established Earth-1. Some characters' origins remained largely the same, such as Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman. On the other hand, some characters' backstories were completely rewritten, such as Hawkman and Hawkgirl, who were changed from reincarnations of Egyptian royalty into winged aliens from a planet named Hawkworld. As stated before, some characters were completely recast, such as The Flash, Green Lantern, and The Atom, who were all given newer and younger faces behind their masks. While the Silver Age was occurring, the timeline of the Golden Age was still ongoing, albeit unseen. Their stories continued as they aged up to points that would later be seen after the establishment of the Multiverse: Bruce Wayne, the Batman of Earth-2, ended up marrying a former enemy of his, Catwoman, and together they had a daughter named Helena Wayne, who would go on to be the crimefighter Huntress; Kal-L, the Superman of Earth-2 discovered his long-lost cousin, Kara Zor-L, the Earth-2 variant of Earth-1's Supergirl, who adopted the name Power Girl. Jay Garrick, The Flash of Earth-2, would retire like the majority of his peers in the Justice Society, until eventually meeting Barry Allen, The Flash of Earth-1, in the first recorded instance of interaction between two parallel universes in the DC Multiverse. Up until this point, it would not be known that the Golden Age had occurred in Earth-2 and the Silver Age in Earth-1.
