Low income neighborhoods (jan 1, 1980 – jan 1, 1990)

Description:

My father (Edwin Broadnax) has lived the exact same as my mother - However, he was born in Texas. Ultimately, residing in the Los Angeles area, specifically Compton, California. He grew up in a low income area with high crime rates. Given the amount of opportunities there were for a black man in that area with no higher education he enlisted in the military. My father believes if he wouldn’t have left he would have been incarcerated because of how high the rate was and how high the crack track went up. There was lots of participation in illegal drug activity in the Compton community in the 80’s and 90’s.
