India (aug 20, 327 BC – dec 6, 326 BC)

Description:

Alexander the Great reached India in the summer of 327 BC. He had conquered the Achaemenid Persian Empire and was looking for new lands to conquer. He crossed the Indus River and entered the Punjab region of India. He defeated the Indian king Porus at the Battle of the Hydaspes River and then marched as far as the Beas River. However, his troops refused to go any further, so he turned back and marched back to Babylon.

Here is a timeline of Alexander's conquests in India:

Summer 327 BC: Alexander crosses the Indus River and enters the Punjab region of India.
July 326 BC: Alexander defeats the Indian king Porus at the Battle of the Hydaspes River.
Autumn 326 BC: Alexander reaches the Beas River.
Winter 326 BC: Alexander's troops refuse to go any further, so he turns back and marches back to Babylon.
Alexander's invasion of India had a significant impact on the region. It introduced Greek culture and ideas to India, and it also led to the development of a new hybrid culture that combined Greek and Indian elements. Alexander's invasion also had a lasting impact on the history of India, as it helped to pave the way for the later arrival of Islam in the region.
