Deborah (may 26, 1237 BC – dec 20, 1198 BC)
Description:
Judges 4-5
After Ehud died, the Israelites fell into the hands of Jabin, the king of Canaan. For 20 years he oppressed them.
Deborah was the wife of a man named Lapidoth; she is only female judge mentioned in the Bible. She was from the tribe of Ephraim.
Deborah sent Barak to launch an attack against Sisera, the Canaanite general. When in battle, God sends a powerful rainfall that floods the lands, making chariot riding difficult. Sisera fled the battle scene, but is killed by a woman named Jael when sleeping. The Israelites eventually defeat the Canaanites in the plain of Esdraelon (see also Psalm 83:9-10), and the land had peace with the Canaanites for another 40 years.
Deborah judged over Israel for ~40 years.
