Description:
Judges 3:31; Judges 5:6Shamgar was instrumental in saving the Israelites from the Philistines. Using an oxgoad, he killed 600 of them, driving them away.
Despite saving Israel from the Philistines, Shamgar was a poor leader. The prophetess Deborah explains that under his leadership, the roads were abandoned and village life collapsed.
The Bible states that Shamgar judged Israel sometime after Ehud but before Deborah, though it does not specify a length of judgeship.
