The July Days (jul 3, 1917 – jul 5, 1917)

Description:

- 3.07.17 Kadet ministers resigned from the government which caused a military uprising
- around 70,000 soldiers and armed workers surrounded the Tauride Palace in Petrograd, which housed both the Provisional Government and the Petrograd Soviet
- Protestors, supported by the Bolsheviks, demanded that the Petrograd Soviet seize power
- The leaders of the Soviet refused
- Lenin backed down once the Prov. Gov. sent troops to resist the uprising
- Government forces tried to disperse the armed protestors, leading to two days of riots

IMPACT
- Leaders of the PG denounced the Bolsheviks as a threat to the stability of Russia
- July 6 - soldiers surrounded the Bolshevik headquarters ; 500 Bolsheviks surrendered
- The government started a propaganda campaign that painted Lenin as a German spy
- Lenin fled to Finland to escape arrest
