Detroit Riots (jul 23, 1967 – jul 27, 1967)
Description:
Many African Americans lived in Detroit, so when the city was in economic and social strife, they were left unemployed, which helped drive the riot. The riot was the immediate response to the police brutality. An unlicensed bar in the poorest black neighborhood where civil rights groups met were raided by police officers in the early Sunday morning. There were 2500 store looting and fires among the building that resulted in damage of $32 million. Attacks and raids resulted in 33 black people and 10 white people killed.
