The Korean war was a conflict between the Soviet-aligned People's Republic of Korea (North), and the NATO-aligned Republic of Korea (South). The war was fought directly by the United States, and although never officially ended, the war resulted in a ceasefire between the two Korean governments that is still in effect to this day.
