Mary Wollstonecraft (jan 1, 1759 – jan 1, 1797)

Description:

Mary Wollstonecraft had an abusive father when she was growing up, and thus, didn't get a full education. When she was old enough, she became independent, started a school, worked for different households, and became a writer. In her book, Thoughts on the Education of Daughters, she voiced her opinion about how girls should have the same education as boys. During this time period, boys went to school and learned the curriculum we learn today; math, history, science, writing, reading. Girls would usually go to someone's house and learned how to take care of children, knit, and clean. In her next book, A Vindication of the Rights of Women, she continued her thoughts of her previous idea, and added on about how women should be seen equal to men under the law. She also extremely valued education, and thought that no matter what class you are in, you should recieve education.
