Battle of Nanchang (mar 17, 1939 – may 9, 1939)
Description:
The Battle of Nanchang was the first major battle following the Battle of Wuhan. The Chinese lost the city of Nanchang to the Japanese after defending it during the Battle of Wuhan. However, on April 21, the Chinese launched a surprise attack to take the city back after learning that Japanese troops in the area were moved to support other areas. Although they managed to break through Japanese lines, on April 27th Japanese forces began to counterattack. After heavy Chinese casualties, the Chinese army retreated on April 9th and Nanchang remained under the control of the Japanese.
