Cesare Beccaria (mar 15, 1738 – nov 28, 1794)

Description:

Cesare Beccaria was an Italian legal philosopher, economist, and politician who created the idea of the rights of the accused, which states that everybody has the right to be innocent until proven guilty. He greatly disagreed with torture, corruption of judges, and the death penalty. He wrote the book "On Crimes and Punishments" in 1764, which contained commentary and translations by Voltaire, another enlightenment thinker of Beccaria's time.
