Battle of Xuzhou (mar 24, 1938 – may 1, 1938)
Description:
After their defeat at Taierzhuang, the Japanese planned to encircle the Chinese town of Xuzhou in the Battle of Xuzhou. Despite their previous failure and the fierce battle, the Japanese managed to take control of Xuzhou. However, they didn’t have troops to completely surround and contain the Chinese. Many Chinese soldiers broke through gaps in the lines or became guerillas and went to the countryside. This resulted in Japan not being able to fully use the victory to their advantage as they couldn’t eliminate all the remaining Chinese troops. In addition, the battle allowed Chinese troops to prepare their defense for the Battle of Wuhan.Added to timeline:
