After years and years of tension between the two Koreas over the division of the country, the first act of violence was taken when North Korea invaded South Korea and attacked points along the 38th parallel, also known as the wall that divided the two areas. North Korea wanted to take over South Korea to unify Korea under the communist title. Because of this, a war was sparked and the UN and the USA joined the war taking sides with South Korea. At the same time, North Korea was supplied and sponsored by the Soviet Union, and after two years of fighting and suffering 2.5 million casualties, Both Koreas thought it best to remain divided between Democracy and Communists. This war was very important to the policy of the US because it restricted the spread of communism. This was obviously important to the Democratic areas. This was one of the many wars in the Cold war.
