- therefore he lived in the forbidden city
Emperor Kangxi (r. 1661-1722)
- promoted Chinese tradition

- Conqueror - Mongolia (parts), Central Asia, Made Tibet a Chinese protectorate)
Emperor Qianlong (r. 1736-1795) (rules at the prime of the empire)
- Kangxi's grandson
- Kept many of the same policies as his grandfather
- Expansion of tributary states
-> Vietnam, Burma, Nepal
- had so much money he for went taxes 4 times
Economy
- Agricultural based (corn, rice, sweet potatoes, peanuts)
- Exports: Tea, Silk, Porcilin
