Description:

- Originated in an effort to preserve existing liberties
- Already had something close to self-government
- Wanted independence, new democracy, lower property requirements for voting, new human rights, lower tax, and representation
- Inspired by Enlightenment thinking- John Locke especially
- Physical distance from parliament and king
- Increased tax w/out representation in parliament

- Became independent
- Inspired French and Haitian revolutions
