1981 South Africa tour of New Zealand (jul 22, 1981 – sep 25, 1981)
Description:
In 1981 Muldoon again risked the wrath of the world by agreeing to allow South Africa to tour New Zealand.Officially the all the New Zealand government needed to do under the Gleneagles agreement was to disapprove of the tour. So Muldoon told the rugby union that it disapproved but did nothing to stop the tour.
The public believed that stronger action was needed.
A poll in May 1981 showed that 43% of people opposed the tour with 41% in favour, by the end of the tour it was 54% against and 42% for.
