Astyages was a king of the Median Empire who ruled from 585 to 550 BCE. He was known for his military campaigns and diplomatic efforts to expand his kingdom's territory. He successfully defeated the Lydian army and established Median control over Anatolia. Astyages was also credited with establishing a stable and prosperous empire through his administrative and economic policies. However, his reign ended when he was overthrown by his own grandson, Cyrus the Great, who went on to establish the Achaemenid Empire.
