Description:

Charles II was relatively tolerant towards religious dissenters, in contrast to his father, Charles I, who had pursued a more aggressive policy of religious uniformity. During his reign, Charles II issued a number of Declarations of Indulgence, which aimed to relax the penal laws against non-Anglican Protestants and Catholics.
