Siege of Montevideo (may 21, 1811 – oct 12, 1811)

Description:

Part of the Banda Oriental (Uruguay) Military Campaigns.

After Artigas victory in the Battle of Las Piedras, military troops from the United Provinces sieged the city of Montevideo that was administered by the Spanish monarchy in the Viceroyalty government (it was only recognized in Uruguay) in order to take it.
During the portuguese invasion, the portuguese army threatened the United Provinces army with ending the siege.
The siege failed, and the spanish monarchy continues to govern the city.
Lord Strangford, british ambassador to Portugal and Brazil, declared an armistice to end the siege and other blockades, which was signed on October 20th. Viceroy of the Río de la Plata signed it on October 21st and the First Triumvirate signed it on 24th
