Mexican American War (apr 18, 1846 – feb 18, 1848)

Description:

President Polk = firm believer in Manifest destiny & American expansion. He instigated a fight by moving troops into a disputed zone between the Rio Grande and Nueces River. Mexican cavalry then attacked them which eventually led to war.

The US invaded Mexico and had a series of battles (the US winning the majority of them). The war ended w/ the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.
