Serge Rachmaninoff (jan 1, 1873 – jan 1, 1943)
Description:
Taught piano at a young age by his mother, then moved to St. Petersburg at 9 and entered a conservatory before switching to the one in Moscow where he did a lot of composing and piano playing. Critics filled him with self doubt after his first symphony and he was quiet for 2 years. He regained his footing as a conductor and even toured the US. He died and was buried in the US (against his wishes).
