William Billings (USA) (jan 1, 1746 – jan 1, 1800)
Description:
Billings was born in Boston, and worked in the leather trade while being a revolutionary. Apparently he had one short leg, one eye, no home, and a rasping voice. A self taught musician, he spent a lot of time teaching to newly form public school singers. He wrote several philosophical music books supporting music’s positive qualities. Preferred fugues, anthems, and hymns.
