Hildegard Von Bingen (Germany) (jan 1, 1098 – jan 1, 1175)
Description:
Hildegard von Bingenmystic visions from a young age, lived in a convent for approximately forty years, then founded her own. Wrote mostly in poetry and dramatic writing about female religious figures (Mary and St. Ursula). She is believed to have written the first sacred musical drama, and her music is idiosyncratic, with unusual melodic contours set in unconventional modal contexts. Then again, what would “conventional” have really looked like at the time.
