photo realism (jan 1, 1970 – jan 1, 1979)
Description:
In the United States, the photorealism art trend started in the second half of the 1960s and peaked in the 1970s. The focus placed during this time on producing accurate, itemised paintings and figures that were often based on photographs set it apart. The use of the human form in art, which was frequently shown in an incredibly realistic way, was one of photorealism's most significant aspects. By using images as a source of inspiration on occasion, artists in the photorealist movement experimented with what it meant to be "practical" in terms of craftsmanship. They explored the relationship between reality and representation by using the human body, frequently creating works that were so lifelike they could not be recognised from pictures. The artist's technical proficiency and meticulous attention to detail defined photorealism, which continues to influence contemporary art today.
