Description:
During the Neoclassical period in craftsmanship history, spreading over from 1780 to 1840, there was a reestablished interest in the human structure, which was depicted in a more glorified and traditional way. Craftsmen looked to catch the pith of traditional magnificence and congruity, drawing motivation from old Greek and Roman model. One critical occasion during this time was the development of the "respectable savage" theme, which depicted the human structure as an image of immaculateness and guiltlessness, immaculate by the defilement of current culture. This was exemplified by crafted by specialists, for example, Antonio Canova, who made exquisite and refined models of fanciful figures and courageous people, saturating them with a feeling of old style greatness. The use of the human form as a means of expressing political and social ideals was another significant development during this time period, as evidenced by the works of Jacques-Louis David, who utilized classical motifs to represent the values of the French Revolution. Artists were inspired by the neoclassical approach to the human form throughout the 19th century and beyond.
