Mikhail Gorbachev (jan 1, 1985 – jan 1, 1991)
Description:
Was the eighth and final leader of the Soviet Union before it was dissolved. He tried to institute radical reforms to Russia such as "glasnost" which allowed openness with the soviet union leading to other states to rebel and declare independence such as Lithuania. He also instituted "perestroika" which allowed for more of a free market economy and private property. He allowed for different parties and make the head of the Soviet Union no longer a permanent position.
