Gulf of Tonkin Incident & Gulf of Tonkin Resolution (aug 2, 1964 – aug 4, 1964)
Description:
The USS Maddox was attacked by North Vietnam patrol boats. A few days later a similar attack happened again. This rose alarms which gave President Lyndon B. Johnson a great amount of power. It gave LBJ authority to do whatever is necessary. He decided to increase the number of troops and military. In doing this what was a huge potential consequence, became the Vietnam war.
