Erie Canal (jan 1, 1817 – jan 1, 1825)
Description:
Massive national project by the US to dig a canal from NY to Chicago. Vital to the development of the economy. Led to the decline of NE agriculture, because crops could easily be transported from the West to NY via the canal. Also led to more settlement and migration Westward. Contributed to growth of the economy.
