Cuban Missile Crisis (oct 16, 1962 – oct 28, 1962)
Description:
In 1960 Krushchev strengthened relations with Fidel Castro's Cuba by sending ballistic missiles to Cuba so they could defend themselves against the United States. President Kennedy responded by setting up a blockade around Cuba so they could no longer receive missiles. Both sides stood on the brink of a nuclear war. Finally Kruschchev stepped back and allowed the missiles to be dismantled in Cuba.
