First Wave of Amish Immigration to North America (jan 1, 1737 – jan 1, 1767)
Description:
Due to their beliefs of peace and forgiveness, the Amish refused to join the army. They also did not believe in government which caused them to be seen as "troublemakers". Soon, they were forbidden in certain areas of Europe and decided to resettle. The Charming Nancy set sail for North America from the Netherlands with 21 Amish families. Over the next three decades, about 100 families made the crossing.
