Cause: Rising feelings of independence btw GB and US, increased punishment/taxes from French & Indian War, GB harsh and not willing to listen to American attempts at compromise

- Stamp Act Congress: pro-independence US representatives
- Committee of Correspondence: Founded by Sam Adams to monitor suspicious GB activity
- "Common Sense" by Thomas Paine
- Declaration of Independence by Jefferson
- Battles: Lexington & Concord, Bunker Hill, Saratoga, Yorktown
- Treaty of Paris: cements independence but promises paying back of debts, ensures Westward Expansion
Effects: Establishes the America albeit a country filled with debt and sectional divides, establishes national and cultural independence
