Reign of Justinian (jan 1, 527 – jan 1, 565)
Description:
Under Justinian and Theodora Byzantine art and culture flourished. Justinian rebuilt Constantinople after it had been ravaged by earlier riots over high taxes and the Roman legal code. He built a new church, the Hagia Sophia. Justinian also revamped the Roman law code, making it more unified and a lot less confusing. Justinian also did a lot of expansion, although most of the holdings didn't last long. Justinian made lasting impacts on the Byzantine empire and in turn world history because the Byzantine empire lasted a long time and has influenced many aspects of history.
