John Horner purchased a plot of land later naming it Union City in honor of a steamboat he owned which was called the “Union” . A couple months later in December 1850, a man named Henry Smith purchased a plot of land and later named it New Haven after his hometown in Connecticut. Around that time, two brothers known as the Decoto brothers bought a huge lot of land and named it Decoto
