Description:
The Soviet decision to invade Afghanistan and install a puppet government was not popular in the west. By engaging in the conflict the Soviets pitted themselves against the US in an active conflict. They increased diplomatic tension while also allowing the US to funnel weapons to attack the Soviets. By creating the war the Soviets further antagonized the west, to the point there was no going back.Added to timeline:
