Smyth (ENG) (jan 1, 1858 – jan 1, 1944)
Description:
English composer and writer. Though persistently neglected by the musical establishment, she was a significant and vital voice of the British musical renaissance.
She uses late romantic-early 20th century extended chromatic harmony. It is functional in very small chunks. She cadences frequently, but there is seldom a settled feeling because she changes keys just as frequently. She uses a wide array of techniques to change keys (fugue/sequences, direct, common tone, etc.).
