Description:
When Vietnam was separated into north and south, North Vietnam attacked South Vietnam with violent tactics called Viet Cong. Americans got involved in 1963. A treaty was drawn ten years later to cease the fighting and have an election. However, two years later, the Northern Vietnamese took over the souther capital of Saigon, renaming it Ho Chi Minh City, and imposing a new reign on Vietnam.Added to timeline:
