Description:
-Considered the greatest theologian of the early church
-Born to a pagan father and devout Christian mother (Monica)
-Pursued education and teaching in philosophical oration, Neo-Platonism, and Manichaeanism
-Was finally converted by reading Scripture after hearing a child say “take up and read”
-Sat under the teaching of Ambrose, and became a bishop
-Wrote the famous works Confessions and City of God
-Debated some of Jerome’s translations of the Vulgate
-Seems to agree with (and perhaps drive) the later developed doctrines of Calvinism
