Clement of Rome (jan 1, 35 – jan 1, 99)

Description:

-Potentially alive before Jesus’ death

-A potential coworker of Paul mentioned in Phil 4:3

-4th Elder of the Church of Rome (88–99AD)

-Wrote his epistle to the Corinthians in 96AD
-This would become the earliest Christian document outside the NT
-Focus: (1) The apostolic gift has ceased
-Focus: (2) Authority lies in Scripture
-Sites the NT often, recognizing it as Scripture even this early (18 books!)

-Martyred in 99AD, supposedly by being drowned
