Fascism develops (mar 23, 1919 – nov 9, 1921)

Description:

Starting out as a socialist movement Fascism does not attract a lot of attention

his support initially comes from disgruntled veterans, young bored men looking for adventure, futurists

But Mussolini still hates the PSI, members of which the fascists beat and publicly humiliate

Around September 1920 Mussolini realizes that people are afraid of communist revolution,
so he abandons his left-wing ideas and commits fully to nationalism and militarism

This attracts him a lot of support from the upper class and the petty burgeoise who start seeing Mussolini as the antidote to communism

Fascists recieve funding from the industrial and rural elites,
they become a mass movement

It is not tightly controlled by Mussolini,
Fascist Blackshirt squads operate locally under the command of their respective Ras,
the relations between Mussolini and the Ras were sometimes tense
