Italian involvement in WW1 (may 23, 1915 – nov 11, 1918)

Description:

The war was a disaster for Italy

5 M conscripted,
600 K dead,
1 M wounded

the soldiers were given low rations,
they had poor equipment,
they were poorly led
forced to fight in terrible Alpine conditions
a lot of deserters (290 K court martialled)
it was a trench stalemate,
soldiers developed camraderie (Trenchismo)
they grew dissilusioned w/ the Lib establishment

the war also got the government into huge debt

some Italians profitted from the war,
they were targets of aggression after the war

due to all the death and the fact that ultimately the Italians won out against the Austrians in the battle of Vittorio Veneto the Italians thought they deserved a significant reward
