Military Dictatorship of Chile (jan 8, 1973 – oct 11, 1979)
Description:
Like several south American countries, Chile was ruled by a brutal military dictatorship. Chile's military staged a coup, overthrowing the government. General Augusto Pinochet's right-wing regime committed multiple crimes against humanity. People they did not like were tortured, thrown in jail, or killed.
The US's CIA supported these right-wing dictators in their global fight against "socialism" and "communism"
There were military dictatorships from the 1960s to the mid 1980s.
