Description:
Civil war fought between the Republicans and the Nationalists. The Republicans were left-leaning, while the nationalists were led by General Francisco Franco, who were more right-leaning. Franco became a dictator, creating a fascist state. In many ways, the Spanish Civil War became a training ground for WWII.
Picasso painted "Guernica" after a village was bombed by airplanes.
