Russian Revolution (mar 8, 1917 – dec 14, 1920)
Description:
Massive uprising overthrowing the Tsar (king) and attempted to create a "socialist/ communist" state.
The Tsar owned the people and the land, most of whom were peasants living in abject poverty.
The revolution was led by Vladimir Lenin and Leon Trotsky who were inspired by Marx's ideas. In the chaos and suffering of WWI, they used people's discontent to wage a civil war. They killed the Tsar and his family, and started restructuring the society to fit into their vision of an egalitarian state.
