Roman Civil Wars (jan 1, 90 BC – jan 1, 30 BC)
Description:
This series of civil wars marked the transfer of power between democratic leaders. There were five main wars which marked discontent concerning the treatment of citizens and more importantly the desire for power. The wars can be broken down into the following:
90-88BCE - Social War
88-80BCE - Civil Wars of Marius v Sulla
80-63BCE - Wars of Mithridates of Pontus
50-45BCE - Civil Wars of Pompey v Caesar
36-30BCE - Octavian v Antony
These wars are later recounted by Plutarch, a Greek, in his books Life of Antony, Life of Caesar and Parallel Lives.
