Fronde (jan 1, 1648 – jan 1, 1653)

Description:

Mazarin's attempts to increase royal revenues to pay for expenses from the Thirty Years' War led to uprisings. Magistrates of the Parlement of Paris encouraged violent protests. Rebellion spread and civil order broke down completely. After Louis was declared king in his own right and the rebellion died down, its leaders came to terms with the government.
