Belgian Rules Over Rwanda
(Symbolization) (copy) (jan 1, 1918 – jun 27, 1962)
Description:
A large way that Belgians symbolized the Tutsi and Hutus was through their physical characteristics.
- Tutsi were taller, lighter skinned and smaller nosed like Europeans
- Hutu were shorter, darker skinned and larger noses unlike Europeans
The Belgian perspective was that because the Tutsi looked more like the Belgians, they were better than the Hutus.
